The money gathered by PT Jamsostek (state social security
\nprovider) belongs to employees\/workers and the members of its
\nsocial security programs. The actual amount of money managed by
\nJamsostek stands at trillions of rupiah.<\/p>\n
As deductions from workers' salaries are paid into the fund on
\na monthly basis, the money should be disbursable whenever the
\nworker needs it, regardless of whether he is retiring or has been
\ndismissed.<\/p>\n
Jamsostek garners profits on the investments in which it has
\nplaced this money, but it is far from clear whether the money is
\nbeing properly managed. For instance, what about the money
\ninvested in Bank Global and other questionable places?<\/p>\n
Government Regulation No.14\/1993 provides that disbursement
\nmay be made at the discretion of the authorities. However, it is
\ndebatable whether this helps guarantee the fulfillment of
\nworkers' needs when they grow old.<\/p>\n
As Jamsostek only manages money belonging to workers, this
\nmoney should be made available whenever it is needed without
\nrestriction. If the regulation prevents workers reclaiming their
\nown money when they need it most, it should be amended.<\/p>\n
