Quality of political parties' members<\/p>\n
Indonesia's terrible human resources development has made it
\ndifficult for political parties to select legislative candidates.<\/p>\n
One of this nation's major problems is its poor human
\nresources development, leaving it unable to compete with other
\nnations.<\/p>\n
Our people's inability to compete with people from other
\nnations can be attributed to many different reasons, but the
\ncountry's educational system is mostly to be blamed for having
\nfailed to produce creative and independent people who are able to
\nthink logically.<\/p>\n
Even when the educational system does manage to create quality
\npeople, once these people leave school they are immersed in
\nsocial values that respect materialism more than noble deeds.<\/p>\n
Materialistic people, even if they are well-educated, tend to
\ntake shortcuts in order to amass great fortunes for themselves.<\/p>\n
As such, members of the political elite are vying to form
\npolitical parties without taking heed of the social investment in
\nhuman resources development.<\/p>\n
Political parties are generally formed without any awareness
\nthat they actually need quality people to serve the nation.<\/p>\n
As a result, most of these parties take shortcuts and act
\narbitrarily in presenting legislative candidates who fail to meet
\nadministrative and legal requirements.<\/p>\n
Monday is the final day for political parties to submit their
\nlists of legislative candidates to the General Elections
\nCommission (KPU), which will then announce the parties' final
\ncandidates.<\/p>\n
Political parties have a big problem as recruiting good
\ncandidates cannot be done in the twinkling of an eye.<\/p>\n
Indeed, the future of political parties can be determined by
\nthe quality of their members. However, the parties continue to
\ntalk instead of taking giant steps to enhance the quality of
