In the era of decentralization and school autonomy, school-
\nbased management (SBM) is being considered the right way to run a
\nschool. To support it, a qualified principal is required.<\/p>\n
The following are some essential requirements for a school
\nprincipal:<\/p>\n
* Ability to serve as a role model (e.g. in terms of
\ndiscipline).<\/p>\n
* Must be neutral, objective and consistent.<\/p>\n
* Must act on the basis of scores, not on individual interests
\nor subjective assessment.<\/p>\n
* Must be fair and be able to provide leadership in matters of
\ninnovation, etc.<\/p>\n
* Must follow up on resolutions of a meeting and monitor the
\nresults.<\/p>\n
* Should not be authoritarian, but democratic.<\/p>\n
* Should have an open management style and have a three-column
\napproach to information: The first column is for the school's
\nannouncements, the second for incoming information from outside
\ninstitutions and the third should show daily events of the
\nschool.<\/p>\n
* Should prioritize the development of human resources
\n(seminars\/professional upgrading, comparative studies, training,
\nscientific writing, library, reading clubs, scientific activities
\netc., rather than study tours).<\/p>\n
These qualities would then be expected to motivate all school
\nelements and create a healthy school culture.<\/p>\n
