        "content": "<p>Bank Indonesia (BI) has begun expanding the use of the Quick Response\nCode Indonesian Standard (QRIS) across borders to China, effective\nThursday, 30 April 2026. With this programme, Indonesian and Chinese\ncitizens can conduct inbound and outbound transactions by scanning QR\ncodes.<\/p>\n<p>BI Governor Perry Warjiyo stated that this convenience is expected to\nencourage cashless transactions among the populations of both countries.\n\u201cSo, every time we go to China or Chinese citizens come to Indonesia,\ndon\u2019t use cash; just use your mobile phone and voila, you can buy\nanything,\u201d said Perry at Grha Bhasvara Icchana, Bank Indonesia, Central\nJakarta, on Thursday, 30 April 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The use of Chinese QR codes is currently limited to China UnionPay\nQR, Alipay QR, and unified QR with UnionPay and Alipay logos. Meanwhile,\nother Chinese QR codes, including WeChat Pay QR, are still in the\ndevelopment and technology adjustment phase.<\/p>\n<p>Bank Indonesia also inaugurated the Indonesian Digital Innovation\nCentre (PIDI) as part of efforts to build a national digital innovation\necosystem. This inauguration aims to promote job creation and economic\ngrowth through sustainable business value for the industry, supported by\ntalent development, implementable innovation, and synergy between\npolicies and public needs.<\/p>\n<p>On the same occasion, the Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia, Wang\nLutong, expressed appreciation and stated that the banking sector needs\nto adapt to innovation, artificial intelligence, and digitalisation\nthrough strengthened investment in technology and human resources.<\/p>\n<p>He also looks forward to the official launch of QRIS connectivity\nwith Chinese QR and will expand participation by involving more banks\nand payment institutions.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, Bank Indonesia targeted that the cross-border QRIS\npayment system could be used in eight countries this year. For now,\ncross-border QRIS can be used in Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Japan,\nand South Korea.<\/p>",
