Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - President Prabowo Subianto received a visit\nfrom Qatar\u2019s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence,\nSheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan bin Ali Al Thani, at Merdeka\nPalace in Jakarta on Monday, 1 June 2026. Sheikh Saoud was warmly\nwelcomed by President Prabowo in a friendly atmosphere.<\/p>\n
The meeting served to strengthen communication and the existing\npositive relations between the two nations. During the talks, Sheikh\nSaoud conveyed a special message from Qatar\u2019s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin\nHamad Al-Thani, to Prabowo.<\/p>\n
The head of state welcomed the Emir\u2019s message and reaffirmed\nIndonesia\u2019s commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties with\nQatar. Both leaders also discussed follow-up actions on previously\nagreed cooperation between the countries.<\/p>\n
In April 2025, Prabowo and the Emir of Qatar witnessed the signing of\na Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) titled \u2018Mutual Understanding\nMemorandum on Strategic Dialogue between the Governments of Indonesia\nand the State of Qatar\u2019.<\/p>\n
The MoU forms the basis for both nations to enhance collaboration\nacross strategic sectors, including politics, regional and international\nissues, defence and security, counter-terrorism, and economy covering\ntrade and investment.<\/p>\n
Additionally, both countries pledged to boost cooperation in cultural\naffairs and strengthen people-to-people ties to reinforce existing\nbonds.<\/p>\n
