Qantas raises RI service<\/p>\n
CANBERRA (Reuter): Australia's International Air Services
\nCommission (IASC) said it issued a draft ruling which, if
\nconfirmed, would allow Qantas Airways Ltd an extra two B767-300
\nservices per week between Australia and Indonesia.<\/p>\n
The IASC said that Indonesia is one of Australia's major
\nmarkets and in the year ended Oct. 31, 1995, totaled 721,200
\npassengers, an increase of 14 percent over the preceding year.<\/p>\n
Indonesia accounts for almost six percent of total
\ninternational passenger movements to and from Australia, it said<\/p>\n
The draft ruling is subject to public comment before a final
\ndecision is made.<\/p>\n
The Commission said Qantas had applied for all of the
\navailable capacity on the route but later requested the
\nCommission defer consideration of the remaining capacity.<\/p>\n
It said that the Commission's view, subject to any comments it
\nmay receive on the draft determination, is that the public
\ninterest would best be served by declining the deferral Qantas
\nhas requested so that the capacity can remain available for any
\nperson, including Qantas, to apply any time.<\/p>\n
