We deplore the clash between Mercu Buana University students
\nand security forces on the university campus. The clash resulted
\nin many injured victim. The damage to the campus discredits our
\nsecurity forces, who seem to be increasingly repressive and
\nbrutal.<\/p>\n
We from the Mercu Buana University Lecturers' Communication
\nForum deplore this physical clash that caused losses on both
\nsides. We are convinced that the clash could have been avoided if
\nthe security forces had restrained themselves and translated
\nwisely the instruction issued by the Minister of Defense and
\nSecurity\/Armed Forces Commander. We hope that, in accordance with
\nthe Mercu Buana University students' commitment, student actions
\nwill take place in an orderly fashion without disturbing public
\nactivities. This was evident in their orderly actions on the
\nprevious days.<\/p>\n
We appeal to the security forces to learn from the bloody
\ntragedy at the Mercu Buana University to take a stance that
\nreflects a better understanding of the meaning and magnitude of
\nstudent movements, in order to prevent a repeat of the tragedy at
\nother campuses in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
