Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has disclosed that technical glitches in Indonesia's Coretax system stem from rogue subordinates secretly re-engaging banned vendors known for poor service, alongside a deliberately convoluted design that allows profiteering through intermediary interfaces. He plans to secure the system and eliminate these issues over the next year but cannot overhaul it immediately due to ongoing operations, while the SPT reporting deadline has been extended to end-April amid low compliance rates. This revelation highlights ongoing challenges in modernising Indonesia's tax administration, potentially undermining public trust and revenue collection efforts.

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has stated that there are
mischievous parties behind the frequent technical issues plaguing the
Coretax system. Purbaya mentioned that some of his subordinates dared to
use a prohibited vendor to re-engage with the Coretax system.

Previously, Purbaya claimed that the Coretax system was secure with
no technical problems. However, he recently discovered that Coretax is
again experiencing disruptions in the form of endless processing
loops.

“Suddenly, there were reports again that the Coretax was spinning in
circles, even though it had disappeared before. It turns out that in our
organisation, there are naughty elements; someone contracted with a
vendor that we had already stopped because of its slow service, and they
sneaked it back in,” said Purbaya, quoted from detikFinance on Friday
(27/3/2026).

Purbaya noted that to date, none of his subordinates have admitted to
the deed.

“Now they won’t admit who brought it back in; I’ll investigate again
who reintroduced that vendor, and we will take action,” Purbaya asserted
firmly.

He then highlighted the odd design of Coretax. The former LPS
chairman assessed that certain parties had made the Coretax design
non-ideal to profit from the resulting problems.

“The Coretax design is a bit strange. It should have been directly
interfaced with the public from the start to make it easy. But it turned
out to be complicated, with an intermediary interface application in the
middle. This is being sold to large companies; I only just found out,”
Purbaya explained.

However, he emphasised that a comprehensive overhaul cannot be done
in the near term because the system is still operational. In the
meantime, Purbaya has directed his team to focus on securing the system
and removing existing obstacles, before further improvements are made
over the next year or so.

“I’ll sort it out. But not now, because it’s already running; over
the next year, we’ll fix it. We’ll secure all of Coretax first,
eliminate the bottlenecks, and then I’ll clean up that deliberately
created interface space,” Purbaya added.

On another note, Purbaya mentioned that the submission of
Notification Letters (SPT) will still be extended until the end of
April, as the number of taxpayers reporting has not yet reached the
target.
",
