        "content": "<p>Jakarta \u2014 Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa displayed continued\noptimism, smiling as he responded to the rupiah\u2019s depreciation, which\nhad touched Rp 17,600 per United States dollar. Against the backdrop of\npressure on the domestic currency and various global sentiments, Purbaya\nsaid Indonesia\u2019s economy was still in good shape.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018If I smile, the economy is good, the rupiah is good. That\u2019s why I\nkeep smiling,\u2019 he told reporters at the Directorate General of Taxes\n(DJP) in Jakarta on Monday, 18 May 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the rupiah\u2019s pressure on the US dollar and its potential\nimpact on energy subsidies as well as macro assumptions in the APBN,\nPurbaya stressed that the government had carried out thorough\ncalculations. \u2018When we calculate the rupiah now, it\u2019s not like the\nprevious APBN assumptions. So, roughly speaking, that\u2019s how it is,\u2019 he\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>However, Purbaya declined to reveal the detailed figures used by the\ngovernment for fear of triggering market speculation about the\ngovernment\u2019s exchange-rate target. \u2018But we\u2019ve calculated it, so there\u2019s\nno need to worry,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n<p>Purbaya also assured that the government had prepared anticipatory\nsteps so that the public would remain calm in the face of rupiah\npressure.<\/p>",
