Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has\nrevealed that President Prabowo Subianto has approved the rate for\nexport duties on coal and nickel commodities. The decision on the\nspecific figure will be deliberated in an inter-ministerial meeting\ntoday, Thursday (26\/3\/2026).<\/p>\n
\u201cThe important thing is that we will decide it in the meeting\ntomorrow. But clearly, the President has already leaned towards a\ncertain figure, so there are no issues,\u201d Purbaya stated at a Halal\nBihalal event with journalists on Wednesday (26\/3\/2026).<\/p>\n
Purbaya explained that although the exact figure has been directed\ntowards a specific amount in line with the President\u2019s instructions, the\nfinal decision will be taken after technical discussions are\ncompleted.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe President said just that amount, but the technical aspects need\nto be refined, because once they\u2019re mature, we announce it,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe figure has been decided by the President, but the meeting can\nstill discuss it first, then we can issue it as appropriate. But\nclearly, the export duty will be imposed in accordance with the\nPresident\u2019s directive. It\u2019s not me who decides, you know,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Purbaya also acknowledged that business actors are likely not to\nfully agree with the export duty policy.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey definitely won\u2019t agree. But coal prices are very high right\nnow, over US$135,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo there\u2019s a certain figure that has been approved by Mr President,\nbut clearly we need to discuss whether the industry can accept it, not\njust what they want, how much their profitability is affected, that\u2019s\nwhat\u2019s calculated, not what the coal company leaders want. If it\u2019s them,\nthey definitely don\u2019t want it,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
The same applies to the coal production target. According to him, the\n2026 coal production target in the RKAB will also be revised, and the\ngovernment will push for increased coal production this year.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe RKAB plan may be revised. But it depends on what the Ministry of\nEnergy and Mineral Resources decides later. But clearly, it will be\nrevised,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
