Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has\nrevealed that President Prabowo Subianto has provided detailed guidance\non addressing the current global economic pressures, particularly those\nexacerbated by the worsening geopolitical conflicts.<\/p>\n
As is known, the war in the Middle East between the United States and\nIsrael on one side and Iran on the other has caused energy commodity\nprices to soar and disrupted global trade activities, resulting in a\nslowdown in the global economic growth projection.<\/p>\n
To anticipate the risks of these global economic pressures, the Head\nof State, according to Purbaya, has instructed the government to focus\nmore on ensuring that subsidy distribution is on target to maintain the\nresilience of the state budget.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the midst of global uncertainty, we must be efficient. The\nPresident has directed that subsidies be targeted, consumption be more\nprudent, and work system transformation must be carried out. This is not\njust about saving, but about economic resilience,\u201d Purbaya emphasised at\nthe PT SMI 2026 Symposium in Jakarta on Wednesday (22\/4\/2026).<\/p>\n
On that occasion, Purbaya also shared the thoughts currently\noccupying President Prabowo Subianto\u2019s mind. According to him, the Head\nof State is now focused on thinking about ways for the country to\nsurvive or operate in survival mode amid the deteriorating global\neconomic uncertainty.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want to explain a little, in the President\u2019s mind, we are now in\nsurvival mode. So it\u2019s not business as usual. All available resources\nwill be used to ensure the economy can grow optimally,\u201d Purbaya\nrevealed.<\/p>\n
This survival mode to maintain the 8% economic growth target is,\naccording to Purbaya, what has prompted the government to aggressively\ncreate special task forces to secure state revenues, state expenditure,\nand ease of doing business.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo if you look, there is the PKH Task Force (Forest Area Regulation\nTask Force) where encroachments, misappropriations, and other issues in\nforest areas are being addressed; that is a serious step by the\nPresident,\u201d Purbaya explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe doesn\u2019t want any more of our natural resources to be exploited,\nbut the returns for the state are not good. So, that will continue to be\ndone going forward,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n
Therefore, Purbaya has conveyed this mindset of the head of state to\nhis subordinates, so that they too adopt a similar perspective that the\ncountry is currently in survival mode.<\/p>\n
