        "content": "<p>Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has revealed that President\nPrabowo Subianto previously expressed his desire on several occasions to\ndisband the Directorate General of Customs and Excise.<\/p>\n<p>Prabowo reportedly considered replacing the institution with an\ninspection system operated by an independent survey company or Soci\u00e9t\u00e9\nG\u00e9n\u00e9rale de Surveillance (SGS). \u201cA few weeks ago I held a meeting at the\nPalace with the President. He usually says to dissolve Customs and\nreplace it with SGS,\u201d Purbaya stated during an inauguration ceremony for\nFinance Ministry officials in Jakarta on Tuesday, 10 March 2026.<\/p>\n<p>According to Purbaya, in recent weeks the President has begun to\nobserve performance improvements within the Directorate General of\nCustoms and Excise, prompting the dissolution proposal to no longer be\nconsidered the primary option.<\/p>\n<p>He also acknowledged that he had previously considered replacing the\ncustoms supervision system with SGS. However, following recent\ndevelopments, Purbaya assessed that Customs performance has begun to\ndemonstrate quite significant improvements.<\/p>\n<p>He is confident that the institutional reforms can continue to be\ncarried out without needing to replace the system with SGS supervision.\nAccording to Purbaya, the President\u2019s recognition of these advances\nrepresents an appreciation of the reform efforts undertaken within the\nagency.<\/p>\n<p>He also extended praise to Director General of Customs and Excise\nDjaka Budhi Utama and his team, whom he recognised for having worked\ndiligently to achieve these improvements.<\/p>",
