Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has announced an evaluation of the CoreTax system following the discovery of irregularities, including the unauthorised reinstatement of underperforming vendors and the existence of additional application layers that complicate user access. He highlighted that the system's initial design is not fully user-friendly, allowing certain parties to exploit intermediary interfaces for services to large companies, which was previously unknown to the government. The Ministry prioritises stabilising the system for smooth tax reporting before undertaking comprehensive reforms.

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated that his ministry will
evaluate the CoreTax system. Speaking at the Presidential Palace Complex
in Jakarta on Friday (27/3/2026), Purbaya said the government has
identified new issues in the management of the CoreTax system that
require internal improvements. In the evaluation, Purbaya revealed the
presence of service vendors that had previously been terminated due to
slow performance but were reinstated without official approval.

“In CoreTax, there are suddenly reports again that it’s spinning
around, even though it had disappeared before; apparently, there are
naughty elements in our midst. There’s a contract with a vendor that we
had already stopped because of its slow service, and it’s been sneaked
back in,” said Purbaya.

He also assessed that the initial design of CoreTax is not fully
user-friendly. He explained that the system should directly connect with
the public. However, in practice, there are additional application
layers that make the process more complex.

Furthermore, Purbaya said he recently learned of certain parties
exploiting the additional intermediary layers or interfaces to provide
services to large companies.

“This CoreTax design is a bit odd. It should have been made with a
direct interface to the public from the start to make it easy. But it
turns out it was made somewhat complicated so that in the middle,
there’s a self-made interface application. This is being sold to large
companies. I just found out,” he clarified.

Purbaya said the government is currently prioritising the stability
of CoreTax services to ensure smooth tax reporting processes. After the
reporting period ends, the Ministry of Finance plans to carry out
comprehensive improvements.

“We first secure all the CoreTax elements that have obstacles, then
I’ll clean up this one, the interface space that was deliberately
created,” added Purbaya.
",
