Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has insisted that the
purchasing power of Indonesian households remains secure through the end
of April 2026, i.e., Q1 2026. He noted that sales of cars and
motorcycles had previously declined, but the growth trend had rebounded
by April 2026, providing evidence that Indonesian households’ purchasing
power is still intact. ‘Car sales grew by 55%, and motorcycle sales rose
by 28.1%,’ he said at the APBN KITA press conference for the April 2026
edition on Tuesday 19 May 2026. He is confident that sales of cars and
motorcycles will rise again in June 2026, in line with the introduction
of incentive subsidies and the PPN DTP for electric vehicles. ‘We want a
little stimulus in the economy,’ said Purbaya. The government, as is
known, is preparing incentive quotas of 100,000 units of electric cars
and 100,000 units of electric motorcycles this year. For electric
motorcycles, the government will provide a subsidy of Rp 5 million per
unit. For electric cars, incentives will take the form of a
Government-Borne Value-Added Tax (PPN DTP) of 40% to 100%.
",
