JAKARTA \u2014 President Prabowo Subianto questioned Finance Minister\nPurbaya Yudhi Sadewa regarding the strengthening exchange rate of the US\ndollar during their meeting at Halim Perdanakusuma Airbase, Jakarta, on\nMonday morning. When asked by the media, Purbaya clarified that the\ndollar\u2019s movement falls under the jurisdiction of Bank Indonesia. He\nnoted that despite the weakening rupiah, Indonesia\u2019s economic\nfoundations remain strong.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe dollar is the central bank\u2019s responsibility; we are focusing on\nthe fact that the economic foundations are good, and that is all,\u201d\nPurbaya stated following a meeting with President Prabowo at the Palace\nin Jakarta on Monday night. The two-hour limited meeting was also\nattended by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga\nHartarto, Minister of Investment and Downstreaming Rosan Roeslani, and\nthe Governor of Bank Indonesia, Perry Warjiyo.<\/p>\n
According to Purbaya, the President\u2019s inquiries focused on the state\nof the economy and the national budget. \u201cIt was not about the rupiah.\nRegarding the rupiah, he only asked if the economic conditions and the\nbudget are good; they are good and there are no issues, the economic\nfoundations are truly solid. However, there will be a need for better\ncommunication to the markets and investors regarding the situation,\u201d he\nexplained.<\/p>\n
It was noted that President Prabowo raised the issue of the US dollar\nsituation with Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa at the conclusion\nof a ceremony for the handover of several main weapons systems\n(alutsista) to the TNI at Halim Perdanakusuma.
