Jakarta \u2013 Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has confirmed that\ndiscussions regarding debt restructuring for the Indonesia-China\nHigh-Speed Railway (Whoosh) project have been concluded.<\/p>\n
He explained that the Indonesian government has made a decision on\nthe steps to resolve the debt going forward, which will be announced by\nPresident Prabowo Subianto or other relevant officials.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe meeting has already concluded, but it will be for the President\nor the government to officially announce it, not me. But the path\nforward is already clear,\u201d Purbaya said at the Finance Ministry in\nJakarta on Friday, 13 March 2026.<\/p>\n
The statement was made in response to Coordinating Minister for\nInfrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY),\nwho had stated during a press conference on the Best Quick Results\nProgramme (PHTC) and Lebaran holiday return preparations on Wednesday,\n11 March 2026, that the continuation of the Whoosh high-speed railway\nproject to East Java is being pursued in parallel whilst awaiting the\nfinancial restructuring of PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China, the operator\nof the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway (KCJB).<\/p>\n
AHY said he has held meetings with the Finance Ministry and Danantara\nIndonesia regarding plans for Whoosh to operate as far as Banyuwangi,\nEast Java.<\/p>\n
AHY explained that whilst developing the next phase of the Whoosh\nproject, the government will also ensure that the financial\nrestructuring of KCJB continues. According to him, the financial\nrestructuring of KCJB is crucial as it will affect the roadmap for\ndeveloping Whoosh to East Java.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, AHY stated that once a solution to the financial\nproblems of KCJB has been found, the future phases of the Whoosh project\ncan be continued.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe should first ensure that the KCJB is completed, meaning that a\ngood solution has been found, only after that can we develop the next\nphases,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
AHY emphasised that the government remains committed to managing and\ndeveloping Whoosh so that its benefits can be felt by a wider\npopulation.
