Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has clarified that while the government will not scrutinise the source of funds used to purchase Patriot Bonds and Merah Putih Bonds issued by BPI Danantara, this does not preclude legal action against investors' other business activities. He argued the policy aims to repatriate offshore funds into Indonesia's financial system to support national development, rather than enabling illicit practices.

Jakarta – The government will provide special treatment for investors
purchasing Patriot Bond and Merah Putih Bond debt instruments issued by
BPI Danantara. This is enacted through the latest Financial Sector
Development and Strengthening Law (UU P2SK), where Article 50A paragraph
(5) states that the state guarantees and protects the purchase of these
special debt instruments from various prosecutions. These include
prosecution for general crimes, prosecution for special crimes including
tax crimes, and all forms of civil lawsuits.

When confirmed, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa explained that
under the regulation, the government does not question the origin of the
funds used to purchase these bonds. However, he stressed that law
enforcement can still be pursued outside of this context.

“The correct interpretation is that the money used for Patriot Bonds
will not have its source scrutinised, that’s it,” Purbaya said at
Tanjung Priok Port, North Jakarta, on Tuesday, 23 June 2026. “But if he
has other businesses, those can still be pursued. If he conducts illegal
business… but the money that has entered here is safe,” he added.

Rather than viewing the rule as potentially facilitating illegal
money laundering practices, Purbaya stated that the measure is intended
to keep funds within the national financial system. “Rather than the
money remaining outside, it’s better to bring it into the system. There
is a slight loss, but in my view, the money enters our economy. We can
use it for development,” he explained.

For reference, Article 50A paragraph (5) of the UU P2SK affirms that
the state guarantees and protects the purchase of these special debt
instruments from general criminal prosecution, special criminal
prosecution including tax crimes, and all forms of civil lawsuits.
",
