Punishment sought for travel agencies<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Three legislators here urged religious affairs
\nminister Said Agil Hussein Al Munawar on Wednesday to revoke the
\npermits of travel agencies that had mismanaged pilgrimages during
\nthe recent haj season.<\/p>\n
\"We want the government to revoke the permits of travel
\nagencies that have mistreated their clients,\" said Syahrul Azmir
\nMatondang of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI
\nPerjuangn).<\/p>\n
Speaking at a hearing between the minister and House of
\nRepresentatives Commission VI, Syahrul said the travel agencies
\nhad not only mistreated the pilgrims but also damaged the
\ncountry's image.<\/p>\n
Two other legislators who also called on the government to
\ntake strong action against the incompetent travel agencies were
\nAM Syaefuddin and Baihaqi AK, both of the United Development
\nParty (PPP) faction.<\/p>\n
During the recent haj season, some 266 Indonesian pilgrims who
\nhad their travel to the holy city of Mecca arranged by different
\ntravel agencies, were stranded in Saudi Arabia because they were
\nnot in possession of return tickets to make the flight back to
\nIndonesia.<\/p>\n
They had gone to Mecca on a trip arranged by Tajak Ekspress
\nand PT Valdatama travel agencies. --Antara<\/p>",
