Jakarta — Indonesia’s Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo has
confirmed that temporary housing facilities (huntara) for residents
affected by disasters in South Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra Province,
will be ready for use before Eid.

The government is currently refining several supporting facilities,
particularly the provision of clean water for residents.

To date, 127 housing units have been occupied in phases. Hanggodo
stated that, in general, all housing units are ready for occupancy,
although the government continues to refine several facilities.

“The housing is essentially ready. What we are ensuring now is an
adequate water supply for all units. Currently, we are adding borehole
points to meet the water needs of all residents,” he explained in a
statement on Sunday, 8 March 2026.

Meanwhile, electricity supply comes from PT PLN (Persero) with 900
watts of power for each housing unit.

Currently, two shallow borehole points are available. Therefore, the
government is accelerating the addition to four or five borehole points
to ensure adequate water supply for residents across the 21 housing
blocks.

Whilst awaiting completion of the additional boreholes, the Public
Works Ministry, together with contractor PT Nindya Karya (Persero), is
assisting in meeting water needs through water tank filling using tanker
trucks.

“We are targeting completion of the additional boreholes in the
coming days so all eligible residents can soon move into this temporary
housing,” he added.

Overall, the housing area is being prepared to accommodate
approximately 245 households, in line with data provided by the local
government.

To meet these needs, the Public Works Ministry is constructing 252
housing units divided into 21 modular blocks, with each block comprising
12 housing units.

The area also features communal kitchens, washing facilities, and a
wastewater treatment system with a capacity of 5 cubic metres.

The housing was built on an area of 14,369.03 square metres from a
total measured land area of 74,081.51 square metres, with the overall
area spanning approximately 2.6 hectares.
",
