Public support to fight graft<\/p>\n

The eradication of corruption, collusion and nepotism (KKN) is
\na reform agenda outlined by the People's Consultative Assembly,
\nbut until the most recent government before President Susilo
\nBambang Yudhoyono came to power, it was a complete failure as
\ngraft remains commonplace.<\/p>\n
KKN has now spread throughout the country and within all
\nlevels of the public administration. Unless there is a
\nbreakthrough, the nation will eventually plunge into ruin.<\/p>\n
Former development planning minister Kwik Kian Gie has
\nestimated that the embezzlement of state assets has amounted to
\nRp 305.5 trillion a year. The amount is roughly derived from 2003
\nstate budget and taxation misappropriation totaling Rp 215
\ntrillion, besides losses through poaching, sand smuggling and
\nillegal logging.<\/p>\n
It requires courage and stern action by the ruling government
\nto fight such practices. The public has placed its hopes in
\nPresident Susilo, who has pledged to support antigraft moves
\nlaunched by authorized institutions.<\/p>\n
The government of course needs the support of all elements in
\nsociety in the endeavor, including the legislature. In this way,
\nthe government will have no doubt and fear in facing big-shot
\nembezzlers.<\/p>\n
