House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani stated that the 2026\nhajj pilgrimage is expected to proceed despite the global geopolitical\nsituation and conditions. The House, she continued, through its relevant\ncommissions will conduct various measures including studies,\nevaluations, and other steps to support the safety and comfort of\npilgrims.<\/p>\n
\u201cRegarding the hajj pilgrimage, whatever problems and global\ngeopolitical situations occur, the pilgrimage must still be carried\nout,\u201d Puan said at the DPR, MPR complex on Thursday, 12 March 2026.<\/p>\n
She assured that the House, through Commission VIII, has requested\nthe government and all related parties to conduct mitigation, including\ncontingencies should conditions become unfavourable for the hajj\npilgrimage.<\/p>\n
\u201cGod willing, Indonesian hajj pilgrims will still perform their\npilgrimage,\u201d said this PDIP politician.<\/p>\n
The previous day, Minister of Hajj and Umrah Mochamad Irfan Yusuf\nstated that his ministry had prepared several scenarios for conducting\nthe hajj pilgrimage this year.<\/p>\n
According to the schedule, the departure of hajj pilgrims this year\nis scheduled to begin on 22 April.<\/p>\n
In the first scenario, Irfan stated, hajj pilgrims would still be\ndispatched despite high security risks, considering that the Saudi\nArabian authorities remain committed to opening the hajj pilgrimage.<\/p>\n
In this scenario, he said, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah would\nconduct mitigation by seeking alternative routes from Indonesia to the\nHoly Land.<\/p>\n
\u201cMitigation through diverting flight routes away from conflict zones\nin the Middle East region or entering via East African airspace, or\nother safe routes,\u201d Irfan said in a meeting with Commission VIII of the\nHouse on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.<\/p>\n
However, he noted that diverting flight routes would extend the\ntravel duration for pilgrims. \u201cThis will also result in an increased\nbudget,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The next scenario involves Indonesia cancelling the departure of\npilgrims despite Saudi authorities remaining open to conducting the\npilgrimage. In this scenario, the ministry would conduct high-level\nnegotiations.<\/p>\n
The aim, Irfan stated, is to ensure that funds already deposited for\naccommodation, meals, and transportation are not wasted but can be used\nfor the following year\u2019s hajj pilgrimage.<\/p>\n
The final scenario is that the Saudi government closes the 2026 hajj\npilgrimage and Indonesia cancels pilgrim departures. According to him,\nthis could occur if the situation resulting from the Iran and\nIsrael-United States conflict becomes uncontrollable.<\/p>\n
Should this option be implemented, the government would halt all\nprocesses for providing accommodation, meals, transportation, religious\nguidance, and pilgrim visa processing.<\/p>\n
Nevertheless, he claimed that for now, amid the ongoing conflict\nbetween Iran and the United States alongside its ally Israel, the hajj\npilgrimage remains unchanged from the original plan.<\/p>\n
