The Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), Puan Maharani,\nemphasised that her institution still has significant work ahead to\nimprove performance quality and strengthen public trust. According to\nher, the success of the DPR cannot be measured solely by the number of\nlaws successfully passed.<\/p>\n

Puan made these remarks during a Special Plenary Session\ncommemorating the 81st Anniversary of the DPR RI at the DPR Building,\nSenayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (1\/9). The meeting was also attended by\nDeputy Speakers Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, Sari Yuliati, Saan Mustopa, and Cucun\nAhmad Syamsurizal.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe performance of the DPR RI during the 2025-2026 Session Year\ncannot be judged merely by the number of laws formed, the number of\nmeetings held, or the size of the state budget discussed and approved,\u201d\nsaid Puan.<\/p>\n

According to Puan, the primary measure of the DPR\u2019s performance is\nhow much the legislative body\u2019s work benefits the community. She stated\nthat the products and decisions of the DPR must impact the improvement\nof people\u2019s quality of life while simultaneously supporting national\ndevelopment.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe performance of the DPR RI as the people\u2019s representatives is\nultimately determined not by how much is accomplished, but by how\nmeaningful the results of the DPR RI\u2019s work are to the lives of the\npeople,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Puan acknowledged that the DPR still has room for improvement in\nexercising its legislative, budgetary, oversight, and parliamentary\ndiplomacy functions. Consequently, the DPR remains open to criticism and\ninput from the public.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe DPR RI also realises that there is still much room for\nimprovement in enhancing the quality of its legislative, budgetary,\noversight, and parliamentary diplomacy functions. Therefore, the DPR RI\nis open to input, criticism, and various sectors of society,\u201d said\nPuan.<\/p>\n

The Chairperson of the PDIP party assessment that public criticism\nshould not be viewed as a sign of estrangement between the DPR and the\npeople. Instead, criticism is necessary to ensure the legislative\ninstitution continues to work based on the aspirations and real\nconditions of the community.<\/p>\n

\u201cCriticism should not be viewed as a distance between the people and\nthe DPR, but rather as part of a democratic relationship that keeps the\nDPR RI close to the aspirations and lived realities of the people,\u201d she\nremarked.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Puan emphasised that the criticism received by the DPR\nwill serve as material for evaluation to improve the institution\u2019s\nperformance. She noted that public trust must be built through alignment\nbetween community aspirations, the policies produced, and the benefits\nfelt directly.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe DPR RI understands that public trust does not grow only from\nwhat is conveyed through words, but primarily from the consistency\nbetween the aspirations heard, the policies taken, and the benefits that\ncan be felt by the people,\u201d Puan stated.<\/p>\n

On this occasion, Puan also presented the number of public complaints\nreceived by the DPR over the past year. From 15 August 2025 to 13 August\n2026, the DPR received 9,205 complaints from the public.<\/p>\n

These complaints consisted of 7,055 submissions via letter, 2,011\nthrough the official DPR website, and 139 complaints submitted through\nvarious House committees (AKD).<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom 15 August 2025 to 13 August 2026, the total number of public\ncomplaints was 9,205, consisting of 7,055 complaints via letter, 2,011\nvia the website, and 139 via the AKD,\u201d Puan explained.<\/p>\n

She stated that all complaints have been forwarded to the relevant\nHouse committees for follow-up, including through the submission of\nrecommendations to the government.<\/p>\n

Regarding legislation, Puan noted that the DPR has completed 16 Bills\n(RUU) into Laws (UU) throughout the 2025-2026 Session Year. \u201cThroughout\nthe 2025-2026 Session Year, the DPR RI has completed 16 (sixteen) Bills\ninto Laws,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

In addition to the 16 enacted laws, the DPR still has several\nlegislative agendas to continue. There are 14 Bills at Level I\ndiscussion, 19 Bills designated as DPR RI Initiative Bills, four Bills\nin the harmonisation stage at the Legislative Body (Baleg), and 27 Bills\nin the drafting stage within House committees.<\/p>\n

The DPR is also still discussing the ratification of eight\ninternational conventions. The 16 laws completed by the DPR during the\n2025-2026 Session Year include:<\/p>\n
