The Ministry of Public Works (PU) is continuing to accelerate\ninfrastructure development in the National Food, Energy and Water\nSelf-Sufficiency Zone (KSPEAN) centred on Wanam, Merauke Regency, South\nPapua. Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo asserted that the\ndevelopment must be able to reduce farmers\u2019 production costs so that\ntheir incomes increase.<\/p>\n
Dody said infrastructure development must not add to the cost burden\nborne by farmers. According to him, all infrastructure built must\nsupport improvements in productivity as well as farmers\u2019 welfare.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere must be no additional costs for farmers. Farmers\u2019 costs must\nbe as low as possible. Farmers\u2019 profits must be as high as possible, so\nthat farmers\u2019 lives become more decent and better day by day,\u201d said\nDody.<\/p>\n
To support the development of the agricultural area, the Ministry of\nPublic Works continues to build irrigation networks, flood control\ninfrastructure, and roads connecting food production areas.<\/p>\n
As of July 2026, the Directorate General of Water Resources has built\n44 kilometres of primary irrigation canals out of a 135.4-kilometre\ntarget in the Merauke Food Production Centre (KSPP). Meanwhile,\nconstruction of secondary irrigation canals has reached 16.31 kilometres\nout of a 61.6-kilometre target.<\/p>\n
In the 1,200-hectare agricultural demonstration plot, irrigation\nnetwork construction is also continuing, with progress reaching 88 per\ncent, or 20.45 kilometres of a total planned 24.2 kilometres.<\/p>\n
In addition to irrigation, the Ministry of Public Works is\naccelerating the construction of flood control infrastructure to\nsafeguard the sustainability of the agricultural area. To date, progress\non Package I has reached 39.02 per cent, while Package II has reached\n36.65 per cent.<\/p>\n
On the connectivity front, the Directorate General of Highways is\nbuilding the KSPP Wanam road to smooth the distribution of logistics and\nreduce the transport costs of agricultural produce.<\/p>\n
Construction of the KSPP Wanam-Muting Road Segment I has reached 3.59\nper cent progress, higher than the 1.30 per cent target. Although\nconstruction is still under way, 58 kilometres of the road can already\nbe used.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, construction of the KSPP Wanam-Muting Road Segment II has\nreached 10.06 per cent progress.
