        "content": "<p>PT Pertamina Trans Kontinental (PTK) has combined coastal\nenvironmental education with a clean-up action at Tangkoko Beach for\nprimary school students in Bitung City, North Sulawesi, to cultivate\nawareness among the younger generation about the coastal ecosystem that\nsupports the region\u2019s tourism potential. Acting President Director of PT\nPertamina Trans Kontinental Eko Cahyadi stated that the educational\ncomponent was added to ensure the activity goes beyond just collecting\nrubbish, but also encourages behavioural change in the community from a\nyoung age. \u201cToday we are carrying out a Coastal Cleanup activity aimed\nat preserving the beach while also educating the children that\nenvironmental sustainability is important for the continuity of life and\nbusiness,\u201d Eko said during the Coastal Education event at Tangkoko\nBeach, Bitung, on Saturday. Unlike previous implementations over the\nlast three years which focused solely on beach clean-ups, this year PTK\nadded Coastal Education, providing learning materials to students about\ncoastal ecosystems, waste management, and the impact of plastic waste on\nmarine life. The materials, delivered by the marine conservation\norganisation Sea Soldier, introduced the position of the North Sulawesi\nregion within the Coral Triangle and the importance of instilling waste\nsorting habits from an early age. The activity involved primary school\nstudents from around the Tangkoko area, the local community, the Bitung\nCity Government, the Class I Bitung Harbormaster and Port Authority\nOffice, environmental communities, and several entities from the\nPertamina Group. Eko Cahyadi explained that Tangkoko Beach was chosen\nbecause of its ecological value and tourism potential, as well as its\nproximity to Pertamina\u2019s operational area at the Bitung Integrated\nTerminal. He noted that maintaining the cleanliness and sustainability\nof the coast can strengthen the area\u2019s tourism appeal, thereby creating\na multiplier effect for the local community\u2019s economy. \u201cThe beach is so\nbeautiful. The Bitung region has both mountains and a complete\ncoastline. It has great potential to be developed into a tourist area,\nbut we must maintain the sustainability and cleanliness of the coast,\u201d\nhe said. After the education session, participants took part in a beach\nclean-up action to apply the lessons on waste management and coastal\necosystem protection. PTK also handed over maritime education books,\nstationery, and waste sorting facilities to the participating schools to\nsupport the habituation of environmentally friendly behaviour. Head of\nEnvironmental Management at the Bitung City Environmental Agency, Audy\nLengkong, said collaboration between the government, businesses,\ncommunities, and the public is necessary to protect coastal areas amid\nlimited environmental management resources. According to him,\nmaintaining the cleanliness of Tangkoko Beach is crucial because the\narea is a tourist attraction and a research site visited by both\ndomestic and international researchers. \u201cThe government also encourages\nthat the cleanliness of the beaches in this region becomes a very\nimportant matter in order to increase contributions to the community,\nboth economically and for tourism in this area,\u201d Audy stated. The\ncoastal conservation effort aligns with the government\u2019s programme to\nstrengthen waste management and reduce the flow of waste into the sea.\nThe Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries is running the Healthy Sea\nFree of Waste programme, targeting a gradual reduction of marine debris\nby up to 50 percent by 2029 through an upstream-to-downstream approach,\ncovering rivers, coasts, ports, small islands, and ship activities. The\nprogramme in Tangkoko is a continuation of PTK\u2019s Coastal Clean Up\nactivities previously held in Semarang in 2023, Kulon Progo in 2024, and\nCilacap in 2025. Based on PTK data, the series of activities from 2023\nto 2025 has collected 37.82 tonnes of waste, involved more than 3,972\nparticipants, and generated a potential emission reduction of 31.4\ntonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent.<\/p>",
