Jakarta (ANTARA) \u2014 PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) continues to broaden its\nportfolio into the renewable energy sector through business\ndiversification, aiming to increase the added value of its resources\nwhilst creating new sources of growth amid a changing energy\nlandscape.<\/p>\n
Turino Yulianto, Director of Downstreamisation and Product\nDiversification at PTBA, said the company is gradually developing its\nportfolio beyond the coal business through downstream processing,\nrenewable energy, and the optimisation of assets and post-mining\nland.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are developing this diversification in stages. We have set a\ntarget that within the next four years, the contribution from\ndownstreamisation and diversification will be around 20 per cent of the\ncompany\u2019s total revenue,\u201d Turino said during the Public Expose Live 2026\nwebinar, monitored in Jakarta on Monday.<\/p>\n
In the downstream business, PTBA and its strategic partners continue\nto explore the development of dimethyl ether (DME) and methanol,\nincluding the technology, economics, and business schemes involved.<\/p>\n
For the coal-to-DME project via methanol, PTBA has partnered with the\nPertamina Group as off-taker. Meanwhile, the coal-to-synthetic natural\ngas (SNG) project is also being developed with the Pertamina Group, with\nPGN as the off-taker.<\/p>\n
Both projects are part of the National Strategic Programme (PSN) and\nare currently under the orchestration of Danantara, which is conducting\na joint feasibility study covering the upstream to downstream\nsegments.<\/p>\n
Turino said the coal-to-DME project is targeted to enter the\nconstruction phase next year. The project is intended to reduce\ndependence on LPG imports, whilst the coal-to-SNG project is aimed at\nmeeting the gas needs of the industrial sector.<\/p>\n
\u201cBoth are under Danantara\u2019s orchestration because they involve\nfunding as well as off-taker arrangements between state-owned\nenterprises. God willing, in the not-too-distant future, the target is\nfor construction to begin next year,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Beyond downstreamisation, PTBA is also developing other value-added\nproducts through potassium humate, a coal-processing-based product with\npotential to support the agricultural sector. The company currently\noperates a potassium humate pilot plant with a capacity of around 171\ntonnes per year, with a target of expanding capacity to 10,000 tonnes\nper year.<\/p>\n
According to Turino, downstreamisation is one of PTBA\u2019s focuses to\nincrease the added value of the company\u2019s resources. The coal business\nremains PTBA\u2019s core strength.<\/p>\n
At the same time, the company continues to prepare for changes in the\nenergy and industrial landscape by developing a more diverse business\nportfolio, whilst remaining guided by the principles of prudence and\nvalue creation.<\/p>\n
