PT Telkom wins ISO certificates<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): State-owned domestic telecommunications provider
\nPT Telkom has obtained ISO 9002 certificates and will launch a
\ngambling-like soccer quiz via telephone toll free with a total
\nprize of up to Rp 30 million per week.<\/p>\n
Telkom obtained here yesterday ISO 9002 certificates from TUV
\nRheinland and AFAQ International for its Central Jakarta office's
\n108 information services and 106 long-distance information
\nservices and for the company's fault management of the South
\nJakarta office.<\/p>\n
The company also introduced yesterday its new customer service
\ncenter on Jl. Medan Merdeka Barat which was officially opened by
\nMinister of Tourism, Post and Telecommunications Joop Ave.<\/p>\n
"The ISO certificates have to be followed with better
\nservices. Companies winning such certificates have to keep up
\ntheir performance," Joop told reporters after inspecting the
\nservice center.<\/p>\n
Telkom, which is listed on the Jakarta, Surabaya, London and
\nNew York stock exchanges, also launched yesterday two new
\nservices based on the Intelligent Network.<\/p>\n
The services include Free Call which will allow users to
\nswitch charges to the numbers they called and Premium Call which
\nis operated in cooperation with private firms including PT Info
\nMedia Nusantara, PT Jasnita Telekomindo, PT Roda Abadi Kencana,
\nPT Asiatel and PT Megatronics Infocitra.<\/p>\n
The Premium Call service includes a hotel directory and soccer
\nleague creation.<\/p>\n
The soccer league quiz invites people to create teams based on
\nteams in the Indonesian league competition, which will run from
\nNovember this year to August next year.<\/p>\n
People interested in participating in the game can call
\n0809-1-234567. Winners will be based on the highest scores.
\nPeople over 17 years are welcome to join the game which offers a
\ntotal of Rp 30 million (about US$111,111) in prizes each week.<\/p>\n
Telkom's president, Asman A. Nasution, said the service, which
\nwas run in collaboration with PT Cipta Citra Sports as the
\ncommercial rights holder of Indonesia's league competition, was a
\nsimple game which awarded the winner a certain amount of money.<\/p>\n
He denied the game was a form of gambling.<\/p>\n
Gambling is illegal in Indonesia. A philanthropic lottery with
\na grand prize was discontinued several years ago after wide
