        "content": "<p>PT Telekomindo upgrades networks<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): PT Telekomindo Prima Bhakti, an Advanced Mobile<br>\nPhone System (AMPS) analog cellular telephone operator, plans to<br>\nimprove its service by upgrading its networks into the Code<br>\nDivision Multiple Access (CDMA) technology.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We will select by the end of this year a suppliers out of<br>\nthree companies participating in the CDMA tender,&quot; Telekomindo&apos;s<br>\nvice president Peter Djatmiko said here over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the three companies included Celcore, Motorola<br>\nand Lucent, all of the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Besides Telekomindo, a subsidiary of the Rajawali group which<br>\nis controlled by Peter Sondakh, there are two other AMPS<br>\noperators in Indonesia; PT Metrosel and PT Komselindo.<\/p>\n<p>Komselindo will also later this year choose a CDMA supplier<br>\nout of Samsung of South Korea, Lucent and Motorola.<\/p>\n<p>CDMA, already approved by the government to be applied in<br>\nIndonesia, is originally developed in the U.S. The system is<br>\nbeing adopted around the world as the wireless industry standard<br>\nto deliver digital cellular and personal communications services.<\/p>\n<p>Peter said that Telekomindo&apos;s the project of CDMA, to offer<br>\neconomical, clear and secure wireless communications, will cost<br>\nabout US$50 million.<\/p>\n<p>Peter said that Telekomindo, currently has some 8,000 AMPS<br>\nusers, in Bali, Kalimantan and southern Sumatra, expects to run<br>\nCDMA in late 1997.
