Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (Persero), also\nknown as SMI, is providing financing worth a maximum of Rp192 billion to\nthe West Sulawesi Provincial Government for the development of\ninfrastructure and regional food security.<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough this financing, we want to ensure that infrastructure\ndevelopment does not stop at physical construction, but provides\nbenefits that can be felt by the community and strengthens the economic\npotential of West Sulawesi,\u201d said SMI President Director Reynaldi\nHermansjah, in a written statement in Jakarta on Thursday.<\/p>\n
The financing covers road upgrades and preservation, bridge\nconstruction, the development of strategic areas, as well as the\nrehabilitation of weirs and the improvement of regional irrigation\nnetworks.<\/p>\n
Reynaldi noted that infrastructure development is a vital component\nin strengthening inter-regional connectivity while simultaneously\nincreasing public access to economic hubs and public services.<\/p>\n
The company noted that 50.23 per cent of the road network conditions\nin West Sulawesi Province still require intervention.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese conditions also affect vehicle operational costs, travel time,\ngoods distribution, and community mobility,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, the strengthening of irrigation infrastructure\nwill be carried out through the rehabilitation of weirs and the\nimprovement of irrigation area networks in Papalang Sampaga, Bantalaka,\nLakejo, and Tobadak.<\/p>\n
The rehabilitation is aimed at increasing the reliability of water\nservices for the agricultural sector, thereby supporting increased land\nproductivity and cropping indices, expanding effective planting areas,\nand reducing the risk of crop failure.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis becomes increasingly strategic considering that the\nagriculture, forestry, and fisheries sectors contribute 47.41 per cent\nto the economy of West Sulawesi,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Reynally stated that this cooperation strengthens SMI\u2019s role in\nexpanding the fiscal space of local governments through alternative\nfinancing options outside of the Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget\n(APBD).<\/p>\n
\u201cRegional financing support from PT SMI allows local governments to\nmeet development funding needs without reducing the budget space\nrequired to maintain the sustainability of other public needs and\nservices,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
