PT Servcorp clarifies<\/p>\n
I am writing in response to a letter titled Ex-employees
\nseeking justice published on Sept. 2, 1998 regarding PT Servcorp
\nIndonesia.<\/p>\n
There are a number of issues that require clarification. They
\nare:<\/p>\n
PT. Servcorp Indonesia is a wholly owned subsidiary of the
\nDharmala Group, a local company, which operates as a franchise in
\nIndonesia. The company is not an Australian-owned operation as
\nquoted in the letter.<\/p>\n
All Ministry of Manpower regulations are strictly adhered to
\nand these have been regularly inspected and approved by several
\nmanpower officers over the last two years. This included a
\nthorough audit conducted by a government task force comprising
\nsenior officers of the Ministry of Manpower, immigration and
\npolice departments. PT. Servcorp Indonesia's president director
\nis Mr. Thomas Kustianto, an Indonesian national. Each team member
\nis provided with a manual specifically written for each position
\nupon commencement with the company. These manuals detail all
\naspects of their respective positions.<\/p>\n
In reference to the two employees referred to in the letter we
\nadvise as follows:<\/p>\n
The employee who the author of the letter claimed was
\ndismissed during her maternity leave resigned after being
\nquestioned by management as to why she allowed an employee of a
\ncompetitor's operation to continually peruse the company's
\nincoming mail. It should be noted that this employee was not
\neligible for maternity leave, however the company paid her in
\nfull along with her medical costs, despite this breach of company
\nregulations and confidentiality.<\/p>\n
The second employee, who is the writer of the letter, was
\nretrenched as a result of the current economic conditions in
\nJakarta. In times of recession, when many companies are forced to
\nstreamline their operations, it is natural that employees with
\noutstanding performance will be retained over those whose quality
\nof work is substandard. Unfortunately, the writer of the letter
\nfound this impossible to accept. Prior to any action being taken,
\nfull application was made to the Ministry of Manpower.<\/p>\n
Interestingly we have received a number of phone calls
\nfollowing the publishing of this letter from other former
\nemployees offering support and a willingness to be quoted in
\nrelation to the inaccurate allegations levied.<\/p>\n
PT. Servcorp Indonesia continues to employ 20 Indonesian staff
\nmembers and supports this business as it loses money, thus
\nprotecting our current team.<\/p>\n
We believe that should we decide to take legal action for
\nlibel we would be successful. However, we prefer to concentrate
\nour efforts on providing the best service for our clients and job
\nsecurity for our people.<\/p>\n
Many companies with international links have left Indonesia.
\nWe continue to provide training at great cost and if more
\ncompanies were as dedicated to continuing their business in
\nIndonesia the return to prosperity would be escalated.<\/p>\n
