        "content": "<p>PT Pelabuhan II, PSA cooperate<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): PT Pelabuhan Indonesia II, the company with<br>\nmanages Jakarta&apos;s Tanjung Priok port and several other seaports,<br>\nsigned a technical cooperation agreement yesterday with the Port<br>\nof Singapore Authority (PSA) to improve port services and daily<br>\noperations.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement was signed by Pelabuhan II president A. Harbani<br>\nand PSA Deputy chief executive officer Goon Lok Loon. The signing<br>\nwas attended by the Ministry of Transportation&apos;s director general<br>\nof sea transportation, Soentoro.<\/p>\n<p>According to a statement made available to The Jakarta Post<br>\nyesterday, the cooperation agreement is a follow-up of a<br>\nministerial meeting of the transportation ministers of the two<br>\ncountries last July which discussed cooperation in the<br>\ntransportation sector, particularly in sea transportation.<\/p>\n<p>The cooperation is expected to increase productivity at<br>\nTanjung Priok.<\/p>\n<p>During the first phase of the cooperation, PSA is expected to<br>\nshare its expertise with Pelabuhan II regarding port services and<br>\nthe solving of operational problems, particularly those which are<br>\ncurrently faced by Tanjung Priok.<\/p>\n<p>The statement said that PSA was chosen as a partner for<br>\ncooperation because it has extensive experience in the field and<br>\nhas succeeded in boosting the productivity of its port services.<\/p>\n<p>The management of Tanjung Priok port came under fire earlier<br>\nthis year after its users complained of inefficiencies at the<br>\nport which, they said, were causing prolonged waiting times of<br>\nships docking there.<\/p>\n<p>Foreign shipping lines threatened to impose a &quot;Jakarta Port<br>\nCongestion Surcharge&quot; to compensate for losses caused by the<br>\ninefficiency, but later decided to refrain from doing so,<br>\nadopting a &quot;wait and see&quot; approach, pending further progress<br>\nunder the &quot;crash&quot; reform program being carried out at the port by<br>\nPelabuhan II.
