PT National Gobel<\/p>\n
We refer to your article: Companies to face trial over toxic
\nwaste on Dec. 16, 2003, which was written by Leony Aurora. It was
\nmentioned that a Company named PT Nasional Panasonic Gobel
\nIndonesia was one of the companies being accused by Public
\nInterest Environmental Lawyers (PIEL) over a violation of
\nGovernment Regulation No. 18\/1999 on the treatment of hazardous
\nand toxic waste.<\/p>\n
Around 1.5 years ago, a similar case occurred in the East
\nJakarta Court. However, that time it was the citizens of Munjul,
\nEast Jakarta, suing UD Kurnia (in a criminal action) for
\ncontaminating watercourses and the air in Munjul. PT National
\nGobel was one of the companies that used UD Kurnia as a
\ncontractor for the disposal of its non-toxic waste up to April 1,
\n1998. Based on the East Jakarta Court verdict on June 25, 2002,
\nthe owner of UD Kurnia was convicted and sentenced accordingly.
\nIt was clear that PT National Gobel never disposed of toxic waste
\nvia UD Kurnia.<\/p>\n
PT National Gobel is one of the Group Companies of Matsushita
\nElectric Industrial Co. Ltd., Japan. PT National Gobel was the
\nfirst joint venture company between pioneers of the Japanese and
\nIndonesian electronics industry -- Matsushita and Gobel. Since
\nits first establishment in 1918 in Japan and 1970 in Indonesia,

\nsocial responsibility duties.<\/p>\n
The procedures for the purchase of materials, the use of
\nmaterials, and the handling of waste, both toxic and non-toxic,
\nup to after-sales service are detailed and specified to comply
\nwith Government Regulations and Matsushita Standards. PT National
\nGobel always submits monthly reports to the government and the
\nJakarta Environmental Control Agency (BPLHD). PT National Gobel
\nis an ISO 9001 and 14001 certified company.<\/p>\n
Our unstinting efforts have been appreciated by the Government
\nof Indonesia. We have received awards for our performance in
\ntreating waste water from the Governor of Jakarta for 4
\nconsecutive years starting in 2000, blue category awards for
\nProper Prokasih and vehicle emissions, the Kalpataru Award in the
\nPembina Lingkungan category, and top place in the 2002 Kementrian
\nLingkungan Hidup (KLH) competition on the handling of vehicle
\nemissions. Internally, PT National Gobel received Clean Factory
\nAwards in the World Matsushita Environment Competition in 2000
\nand 2001.<\/p>\n
For your information, in the Matsushita Group of Companies
\nthere are no companies named PT Nasional Panasonic Gobel
\nIndonesia or PT Nasional Gobel Indonesia.<\/p>\n
