PT Inti given ISO-9001 certificate<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The state-owned telecommunications equipment
\nproducer PT Industri Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Inti)
\nreceived a ISO-9001 certificate for its digital telephone
\nexchange products yesterday in Bandung, West Java.<\/p>\n
The ISO-9001 certificate was awarded by PT Kema Registered
\nQuality Indonesia, an affiliate of the Netherlands-based Kema
\nRegistered Quality Nederland BV.<\/p>\n
Inti's president, Arsyad Ismael, said that the ISO-9001 was
\nawarded for the company's STDI-K Prima small digital telephone
\nexchange.<\/p>\n
The STDI-K Prima, wholly designed by Inti, is a small, modular
\nand compact switching system. Each STDI-K Prima has a flexible
\nrange of line units, which lies between 50 and 200 line units per
\nsubsystem. The capacity of the system can be expanded up to
\n200,000 line units through interworking.<\/p>\n
Being a local product, STDI-K Prima is suitable for low-
\ndensity population areas, blank spots in metropolitan areas,
\nmilitary areas, hospitals, condominiums and housing areas.<\/p>\n
Last November, Inti also received an ISO-9002 certificate from
\nKema for its digital telephone exchange production lines,
\nassembled in cooperation with Siemens of Germany.<\/p>\n
"The ISO-9002 comprised assessment on 20 elements, including a
\nproduct test, assembling and other subjects related with
\nproduction lines and after-sales service," Arsyad said during
\nyesterday's ceremony, attended by a deputy chairman of the Agency
\nfor the Management of Strategic Industries (BPIS), Sutadi
\nSuparlan.<\/p>\n
"The ISO-9001 certificate is more valuable because it includes
\nthe elements of design and product development," he said.<\/p>\n
Inti is one of the 10 firms supervised by BPIS, which is
\nchaired by State Minister of Research and Technology B.J.
\nHabibie.<\/p>\n
According to Arsyad, Inti must retain its management after the
\nawarding of the ISO-9001 certificate, because Kema will conduct a
\nreevaluation and surveillance next December.<\/p>\n
He said that after gaining the ISO-9002 and ISO-9001
\ncertificates, Inti plans to gain a ISO-14000 certificate on
\nenvironment in 1997. (icn)<\/p>",
