In a military court session in Jakarta, a TNI psychologist presented psychological evaluations of four soldiers accused of throwing acid on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus, revealing traits such as impulsivity, low empathy, and practical thinking styles, with no pathological disorders found but potential for risky behaviour noted in each. All defendants expressed significant remorse for the act, which stemmed from resentment over Andrie's interruption of a parliamentary meeting on TNI law revisions. The case highlights tensions between military institutions and human rights activists, with the defendants charged under Indonesia's Criminal Code for violating institutional dignity.

A psychologist from the TNI Psychology Centre, Colonel Arh Agus
Syahrudin, presented the psychological results of four TNI soldiers
acting as defendants in the acid attack case against KontraS activist
Andrie Yunus during a trial at the Military Court II-08 in Jakarta on
Thursday (7/5). “The conclusions for each defendant will be read out
according to the names submitted by BAIS (Strategic Intelligence
Agency),” said Agus at the start of the trial. For Defendant I, Sergeant
Two Edi Sudarko, he was noted to have limitations in thinking
flexibility, tending towards impulsivity, and being less effective in
solving complex problems. Edi was also described as having an aggressive
and dominant personality. “No pathological indications or psychological
disorders were found. However, his thinking processes and personality
patterns have the potential for risky behaviour,” stated Agus. “He
appears to have considerable remorse due to the widespread impact of the
action, not only on himself but also on the victim, family, and
institution. That is the profile from the psychological assessment for
Serda Edi,” he added. For Defendant II, First Lieutenant Budhi Hariyanto
Widhi, he was said to lack high analytical ability, leading to actions
with insufficient consideration. Budhi was also noted to have a
personality that is somewhat cold in relationships, formal, with minimal
empathy, and a tendency towards impulsivity with weak self-control.
During the examination, Agus explained, no pathological indications were
found in Budhi. However, his thinking processes and personality patterns
have the potential for risky behaviour. “He appears to have considerable
remorse due to the widespread impact of the action, not only on himself
but also on the victim, family, and institution,” said Agus. For
Defendant III, Captain Nandala Dwi Prasetyo, he was described as
prioritising practical solutions over in-depth analysis in
decision-making and problem-solving processes. Nandala’s personality was
characterised as independent, rigid, ignoring emotional closeness, and
more task-oriented. “No pathological indications were found, but his
personality pattern has the potential for risky behaviour. He appears to
have considerable remorse due to the widespread impact of the action,
not only on himself but also on the victim, family, and institution,”
stated Agus. For Defendant IV, First Lieutenant Sami Lakka, he was said
to have simple and practical thinking processes. The individual was
noted to have low social interest. “Towards that (introverted), but more
in terms of relatively limited social interest; still able to build
emotional closeness though it takes time,” explained Agus. He said no
pathological indications were found, but Sami Lakka’s personality
pattern has the potential for risky behaviour. “He appears to have
considerable remorse due to the widespread impact of the action, not
only on himself but also on the victim, family, and institution,” he
stated. The four TNI soldiers, assigned to the BAIS TNI Headquarters
Detachment, are accused of throwing acid on the Deputy External
Coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of
Violence (KontraS), Andrie Yunus, on the night of 12 May 2026. The
motive, according to the prosecutor, was that the defendants harboured a
grudge against Andrie for successfully interrupting a parliamentary
meeting discussing revisions to the TNI Law held at the Fairmont Hotel
in South Jakarta in March 2025. “With that incident, the defendants
considered Andrie Yunus to have insulted the TNI institution, even
trampling on the TNI institution,” said the prosecutor when reading the
indictment in a previous trial. The defendants are charged with
violating Article 469 paragraph 1 subsidiary Article 468 paragraph 1
further subsidiary Article 467 paragraph 1 in conjunction with paragraph
2 in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of Law Number 1 of 2023 on the
Criminal Code.
",
