In recent weeks psychics have been practicing their art at
\nseveral malls in Jakarta. Their activities drew widespread
\nattention by the media.<\/p>\n
The mall managers said that the psychics were actually a sales
\ngimmick to draw shoppers, who were interested in knowing their
\nfuture or were curious about their health.<\/p>\n
Some customers who were interviewed said that they had their
\nfortune told for fun, but there were others who used these
\nfortune-telling services to help change their fate.<\/p>\n
As a community of faith, should we not leave mysteries and the
\nfuture to God? Matters of love, fortunes, encounters and death,
\nare beyond human comprehension, and even psychics are highly
\nunlikely to understand these subjects.<\/p>\n
How can people be so shallow in their beliefs by swallowing
\nstories and directions of these fortune-tellers?<\/p>\n
Moslems should especially avoid fortune-telling because the
\npractice is considered an unforgivable sin.<\/p>\n
Encouragement of this practice by mall managers is opposite of
\ngovernment efforts of trying to raise the nation's intellectual
\ncapacities, based on Pancasila and religious teachings.<\/p>\n
To achieve developed results blessed by the Almighty, the
\nbusiness sector shouldn't combine unholy activities with
\nreligious matters. We may be innovative and creative in business,
\nbut please don't spoil public faith, particularly the faith of
\nMoslems.<\/p>\n
Let us race down the road of development in all fairness,
\navoiding the destruction of the public's wholesome faith. I am
\nappealing to government officials, such as security personnel,
\nprosecutors, and the Jakarta administration, to halt these
\nfortune-telling practices.<\/p>\n
