Mitigating fire risks in the workplace requires more than having\nsafety equipment available; workers must also be prepared to deal with\nemergencies. Understanding potential hazards, using fire extinguishers\nand knowing initial response procedures are important to reducing fire\nrisks.<\/p>\n
PT Pelindo Sinergi Lokaseva (PSL) has introduced several mitigation\nmeasures, including establishing an Emergency Response Team, providing\nfire-protection equipment and delivering safety training for workers.\nThe measures are intended to improve readiness for potential emergencies\nacross the company.<\/p>\n
PSL Senior Vice President for Corporate Secretariat Dewi Fitriyani\nsaid preparedness requires every worker to have the necessary\nunderstanding and skills. Safety equipment, she said, must be\naccompanied by the ability to identify risks and decide what action to\ntake in the event of a fire.<\/p>\n
\u201cSafety is not only about having equipment or procedures in place,\nbut also about each individual being ready to recognise risks and take\nthe right action,\u201d Dewi said in a statement on Wednesday (21 October\n2026).<\/p>\n
As part of its mitigation efforts, PSL has established an Emergency\nResponse Team to provide an initial response and co-ordinate action\nduring emergencies. The company has also supplied portable fire\nextinguishers, hydrants, sprinkler systems and smoke detectors.<\/p>\n
In addition to preparing its facilities, the company has trained PSL\nworkers and employees of several subsidiaries to use fire extinguishers.\nThe training took place at the North Jakarta Fire Department\u2019s Koja\nSector 2 office, with firefighters acting as instructors.<\/p>\n
Participants were briefed on the characteristics of fires and initial\nresponse measures. They also practised using fire extinguishers to learn\nhow to operate the equipment in an emergency.<\/p>\n
Dewi said the company regularly conducts occupational health and\nsafety (OHS) awareness activities through communications materials,\neducational leaflets and safety briefings. These activities aim to\nensure workers remain familiar with safety procedures in their daily\nwork.<\/p>\n
\u201cBuilding a safety culture requires consistency. That is why OHS\neducation and reminders need to be provided continuously, not only when\nan emergency occurs,\u201d Dewi said.<\/p>\n
Through its emergency team, safety equipment and worker training, PSL\nis seeking to improve preparedness for fire risks.
