Ahmad Ali, the daily chairman of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI), has clarified that the police report filed against former Vice President Jusuf Kalla over his remarks during a sermon at Gadjah Mada University Mosque was an individual action by PSI cadre Sahat Martin Philip Sinurat, acting through his role in the Indonesian Christian Youth Movement (GAMKI) and other organisations, and not directed by the party. Ali emphasised PSI's non-involvement and plans to mediate a meeting between the parties to resolve the misunderstanding and prevent further public controversy. This incident highlights tensions over sensitive religious statements in Indonesia's political landscape, underscoring the need for careful handling of such issues to avoid escalation.

Daily Chairman of the Central Executive Board of the Indonesian
Solidarity Party (PSI) Ahmad Ali has spoken out regarding the reporting
of Jusuf Kalla over his statements during a sermon at the Gadjah Mada
University (UGM) Mosque in Yogyakarta.

Ahmad Ali emphasised that the reporting has no connection to the
party. He described the reporting action as a personal initiative, even
though the reporter, Sahat Martin Philip Sinurat, is known to be a PSI
cadre.

Currently, Sahat Martin serves as the head of the Party Ideology
Division of the PSI Central Executive Board. He is also the General
Chairman of the Indonesian Christian Youth Movement (GAMKI).

Ahmad Ali stated that the party never issued any instructions
regarding the reporting. “That is not as a PSI cadre reporting,” said
Ahmad Ali when met by journalists at the residence of former President
Joko Widodo in Sumber, Banjarsari Subdistrict, Solo, Central Java, on
Thursday, 16 April 2026.

Ahmad Ali explained that the reporting was carried out through GAMKI
along with several other organisations. He viewed the step as an
individual’s right guaranteed by law. However, he assured that PSI has
no interest in the reporting process.

“As individuals, they have an organisation called GAMKI and there are
20 organisations behind it, then they carried out the reporting. That is
guaranteed by law,” said Ahmad Ali.

Ahmad Ali revealed that Jusuf Kalla had contacted him directly to
discuss the situation. In the near future, he plans to facilitate a
meeting between the relevant parties to ease the tension. This mediation
effort is hoped to clarify the misunderstanding that occurred. “Insya
Allah, in the near future we will hold a meeting, mediation,” he
said.

According to Ahmad Ali, this polemic should not continue to develop
and become excessive public attention. He reminded all parties,
including the media, to be more careful in responding to sensitive
issues. He also assessed that such matters are often exaggerated. “Don’t
judge too easily,” he said.

Ahmad Ali disclosed that the party leadership had previously reminded
cadres not to take reporting actions. However, PSI still respects the
background of cadres who are also active in other organisations.
According to him, those organisations existed before the cadres joined
PSI. “We already had a meeting with the general chairman to remind
everyone of the situation not to,” he said.

Ahmad Ali added that organisations like GAMKI have grounds to express
objections if they feel there are statements that do not align with
their beliefs. He viewed the step as part of the organisation’s
expression in defending the teachings they believe in. “But on the other
hand, we must also respect that before PSI existed, those organisations
were already there. So we must respect their personal rights,” he
said.

Going forward, Ahmad Ali plans to bring Sahat Martin and Jusuf Kalla
together. In his capacity as part of the Indonesian Mosque Council
(DMI), Ahmad Ali admitted he has a moral responsibility towards Jusuf
Kalla.

“I will talk to Mr Sahat, I will talk to Mr JK. Insya Allah, I am
confident, Sahat is my younger brother, Mr JK is my older brother,” said
Ahmad Ali.

However, he emphasised that every individual still has personal
responsibility for their actions. The same applies to PSI cadres
involved in the reporting. He is optimistic that dialogue can be a way
out to ease the polemic that occurred. This effort is hoped to end the
uproar in the public sphere.

“I will try my utmost to bring them together for this mediation so
that this commotion can end,” said Ahmad Ali.

Nevertheless, Ahmad Ali emphasised that his efforts to bring the two
parties together are also not on party instructions. He reiterated that
PSI has no involvement in the reporting. “PSI has no business with this
matter,” he said.

Previously, the Central Executive Board of the Indonesian Christian
Youth Movement along with several organisations reported former Vice
President Jusuf Kalla to the Metro Jaya Police. The report relates to
JK’s statements in the sermon at Gadjah Mada University Mosque. The
reporting was carried out in response to the polemic that emerged in the
public sphere.

GAMKI General Chairman Sahat Martin stated that JK’s statements were
deemed to cause unrest in society. He said the report is hoped to bring
the matter to the legal route for clearer resolution.

“We reported to the Metro Jaya Police so that these statements that
have caused uproar in society and social media can be more directed and
then resolved legally,” he said in a written statement on Monday, 13
April 2026.

The reporters submitted the report on Sunday night, 12 April 2026.
The reports are recorded with numbers LP/B/2547/IV/2026/SPKT/POLDA METRO
JAYA, LP/B/2546/IV/2026/SPKT/POLDA METRO JAYA, and
LP/B/2550/2026/SPKT/POLDA METRO JAYA. All reports have the same
registration date, namely 12 April 2026.
",
