PSF producers take EU row to government<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Makers of polyester staple fiber (PSF) products
\nhave called on the government to intervene after the European
\nUnion and Turkey imposed antidumping duties on their products.<\/p>\n
The Association of Indonesian Synthetic Fiber Makers (APSyFI)
\nin a statement, proposed that the row be discussed at ministerial
\nlevels with the European Commission and Turkish government.<\/p>\n
Secretary-general Risa Bhinekawati said the association would
\nconsider filing a complaint with the World Trade Organization's
\nCouncil of Trade in Goods Committee on Antidumping Practices if
\nthe government lobby failed to roll back the duties.<\/p>\n
The General Council of the European Commission in July imposed
\nantidumping duties ranging from 8.4 percent to 15.8 percent
\nagainst Indonesian PSF, an important raw material for textiles.
\nThe Commission has since imposed additional countervailing duties
\nof up to 10 percent for alleged subsidies.<\/p>\n
The duties imposed are effective for five years.<\/p>\n
\"The imposition will render Indonesian PSF producers
\nuncompetitive in European markets,\" the association said, adding
\nthat the duties would be damaging to its members.<\/p>\n
The association said the European Commission started an
\nantidumping proceeding against Indonesia, Australia and Thailand
\nin April last year following a petition by the International
\nRayon and Synthetic Fibers Committee (CIRFS).<\/p>\n
The association said it has briefly informed Minister of
\nIndustry and Trade Luhut B. Panjaitan the facts of the row with
\nthe European Union and Turkey.<\/p>\n
\"\"We are very grateful for the government's initiative to
\nconduct bilateral negotiations with the Turkish government over
\nthe imposition of antidumping duties,\" it said, noting a planned
\nbilateral consultation in Ankara on Sept. 21.<\/p>\n
The Turkish government has imposed definitive dumping duties
\non Indonesian PSF producing companies, including 6.2 percent on
\nPT Indorama, 29.5 percent on PT Polysindo Eka Perkasa and 37.4
\npercent on PT Silindafin and PT Tifico. (02)<\/p>",
