The Minister of Home Affairs, acting as the Head of the Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Acceleration Task Force, announced that all 4,92<0xA0>22 schools affected by disasters in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra have resumed teaching activities. While learning has returned to 100% of these institutions, challenges remain regarding infrastructure reconstruction and the relocation of 97 schools situated in high-risk zones.

The teaching and learning process in 4,922 schools has, in principle,
100 per cent resumed, according to the Minister of Home Affairs,
Muhammad Tito Karnavian, in his capacity as the Head of the
Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (PRR) Acceleration Task
Force for Sumatra.

Speaking in Jakarta on Wednesday, the Minister stated that as of 22
September 2026, all 4,922 schools affected by disasters across Aceh,
North Sumatra, and West Sumatra have returned to conducting educational
activities. “The teaching and learning process in these 4,922 schools
is, alhamdulillah, 100 per cent operational. That is the most important
thing,” said the Minister.

Tito noted that the continuity of the learning process is a
significant achievement in post-disaster educational recovery. Despite
the thousands of affected schools, educational activities have
successfully resumed across all impacted institutions.

However, he emphasised that the acceleration of rehabilitation and
reconstruction remains necessary, as several schools still face
construction hurdles. Differences in geographical conditions, damaged
access routes, the availability of materials, and subsequent disasters
have all influenced the speed of recovery in each region.

“Given the massive scale of 4,922 schools, it is impossible to
complete everything in a very short period,” Tito remarked.

He also highlighted that 97 schools require relocation because their
previous sites are no longer viable or are located in disaster-prone
areas. Tito urged local governments to accelerate land provision so that
school construction can proceed immediately.

“This once again requires support from regional heads regarding the
97 schools that need relocation,” Tito added.

Furthermore, he requested that local governments identify access
routes to schools that are still experiencing damage, including roads
and bridges. The results of these identifications will be coordinated
with relevant ministries and agencies to ensure that access to schools
can be repaired promptly.
",
