        "content": "<p>A provincial road connecting Padang Koto Gadang in Palembayan\nDistrict, Agam Regency, to Bukittinggi has been cut off for four-wheeled\nvehicles after a section of the road collapsed due to heavy rain on\nWednesday afternoon. Agam Police Chief AKBP Muari stated that the damage\noccurred in the Labuah Sampiak area, Jorong Gunggun, Nagari Salareh Aia,\nPalembayan District, at around 11.00 WIB. \u201cThe road surface has\ncollapsed to a depth of 15 metres, and with a hillside on the other\nside, it is impassable for four-wheeled vehicles and can only be\ntraversed by motorcycles,\u201d he said. According to Muari, the stretch is a\nmain route linking Padang Koto Gadang with several sub-districts in Agam\nand the city of Bukittinggi. He urged the public to monitor the latest\nsituation before travelling through the area. Furthermore, the\nalternative district road connecting Koto Alam, Palembayan District, to\nLubuk Basung via Batu Kambing, Ampek Nagari District, is also currently\nimpassable for four-wheeled vehicles. \u201cFor now, there is no alternative\nroute, because the ring road at Batu Kambing is also inaccessible to\ncars,\u201d he added. The police have coordinated with the Agam Regency\ngovernment to ensure repairs are carried out promptly, as both main\naccess routes to Palembayan are now blocked. Muari added that the local\ngovernment and residents will work to create drainage channels to reduce\nwater flow that is eroding the road surface and triggering landslides on\nthe surrounding cliffs. \u201cThe construction of drainage channels must be\naccelerated to prevent further erosion of the road embankment. As this\nis a provincial road, we have reported it to the West Sumatra Provincial\nGovernment so that an alternative route can be built immediately,\u201d he\nsaid. Meanwhile, Salareh Aia Village Head Rizal Islami stated that the\nroad collapse was triggered by heavy rain that began on Wednesday\nmorning. \u201cThe road surface has been reduced to just a few metres after\nrepeated collapses following the hydrometeorological disaster that\nstruck the area in late November 2025,\u201d he said. Rizal revealed that the\nlocation has suffered damage several times. The road previously\ncollapsed due to flash floods in late November 2025, and a similar\nincident occurred in April 2026, leaving the road only about two metres\nwide before it was further eroded in the latest event.<\/p>",
