Provincial council speaker to be fired<\/p>\n
BANDARLAMPUNG, Lampung: Indonesian Democratic Party of
\nStruggle (PDI Perjuangan) chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri has
\napproved a move to dismiss party member Srie Atidah, the speaker
\nof the provincial legislature here.<\/p>\n
In her decree dated Nov. 24, Megawati also ordered the
\nsuspension of Srie as chairwoman of the party's branch in the
\ncapital city of Lampung and named Ridwan Sangkut, M. Effendi,
\nSuparmin and Tarmuji as caretakers, whose main duty is to prepare
\nan election for the new chief which is expected to take place
\nafter Idul Fitri.<\/p>\n
The Muslim holiday falls on Dec. 27.<\/p>\n
Srie has been in the hot seat after provincial councillors
\nlodged a vote of nonconfidence against her, citing her lack of
\nleadership.<\/p>\n
A disgruntled Srie expressed regret over Megawati's decision.
\n\"As a party which upholds justice and democracy, PDI Perjuangan
\nshould have asked for my explanation instead of just listening to
\na unilateral report from the party's other branch officials,\" she
