However, I think it is<br>\nimportant to examine the context in which the words are used.<\/p>\n<p>Although I can't speak for Olvia Reksodipoetro (who sparked<br>\nthe discussion with her use of the word bule to describe<br>\nherself), I also use this word to describe myself and I<br>\nacknowledge the offensive definition of the word.<\/p>\n<p>When a term that is ostensibly intended to demean a group of<br>\npeople is used by the same group, it is a form of empowerment.<br>\nThe offensive word is rendered impotent, and in fact, makes the<br>\nuser stronger.<\/p>\n<p>This is very common in the United States. We have a very<br>\npopular African American rap band called \"Niggers With Attitude\"<br>\nand a gay movement called \"Queer Nation\".
