        "content": "<p>Protesting villagers meet with officials<\/p>\n<p>BANGKOK (AFP):Some 300 representatives of thousands of Thai<br>\nvillagers who have set up camp outside government offices here to<br>\ndemand social justice began a series of meetings with officials<br>\nyesterday.<\/p>\n<p>A number of deputy ministers were on hand to meet with the<br>\nprotestors, who have been camped outside Government House since<br>\nlate last week to demand action on land rights and justice for<br>\nthe poor.<\/p>\n<p>Police and officials from the Assembly of the Poor, which has<br>\norganized the protest, have estimated up to 20,000 rural<br>\nvillagers, factory workers and slum-dwellers have turned out in<br>\nfront of the government offices.<\/p>\n<p>Sources from the Assembly of the Poor said yesterday's talks<br>\nwould focus on land rights and agricultural issues and said other<br>\ngrievances would be tackled in meetings which are expected to<br>\ncontinue for the rest of the week.<\/p>",
