        "content": "<p>Protesters end Dutch embassy sit-in<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Some 55 East Timorese and non-East Timorese<br>\nprotesters ended their two-day occupation of the Dutch embassy<br>\nlate afternoon yesterday and were immediately bussed to the South<br>\nJakarta Police Precinct.<\/p>\n<p>One of the protesters had to be helped by friends as they left<br>\nthe embassy compound in the Jl. Rasuna Said area for the two<br>\nbuses provided by the police, witnesses said.<\/p>\n<p>A Dutch embassy official accompanied the protesters to the<br>\npolice precinct. It was not immediately clear what concessions<br>\nthey secured in return for leaving the embassy.<\/p>\n<p>They had made three demands: a referendum on the question of<br>\nEast Timor&apos;s integration with Indonesia, a withdrawal of all<br>\ntroops from the territory and the release of all East Timorese<br>\npolitical prisoners.<\/p>\n<p>They had also sought government assurances of their safety<br>\nonce they come out of the embassy.<\/p>\n<p>South Jakarta Police Precinct Chief Lt. Col. Silvanus Wenas<br>\nwas on standby outside the embassy almost all through the day as<br>\nthe embassy officials negotiated with the protesters. He was seen<br>\ngoing and out several times.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We&apos;re not involved in the negotiations,&quot; he told reporters.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement was reached less than an hour after human rights<br>\ncampaigner H.J.C. Princen came to join the negotiations which<br>\nlasted more than four hours.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Jakarta Police headquarters yesterday released<br>\nall 57 protesters who had broken into the Russian embassy on<br>\nThursday, after having held them for questioning for almost 24<br>\nhours.<\/p>\n<p>They were not charged.<\/p>\n<p>A police official said that it was up to the Russian embassy<br>\non whether or not to press charges, because the protesters forced<br>\ntheir way into its sovereign territory.<\/p>\n<p>The two embassy break-ins occurred at almost the same time in<br>\nthe early hours on Thursday.
