        "content": "<p>Protest delays demolition of houses<\/p>\n<p>TANGERANG, West Java (JP): The demolition of 639 houses in<br>\nDadap village scheduled for yesterday was delayed upon the<br>\nrequest of the ruling group Golkar's Central Board.<\/p>\n<p>The Tangerang Regency spokesperson Ena Karlina told The<br>\nJakarta Post yesterday that a Golkar courier met with Regent<br>\nSyaifullah AR, bringing a letter requesting permission to let<br>\nGolkar members visit the area before any demolition is begun.<\/p>\n<p>\"The letter said Golkar will approach Perum Angkasa Pura over<br>\nthe compensation money promised for the owners of the illegal<br>\nhouses which will be dismantled,\" Ena said.<\/p>\n<p>The residents said owners of permanent buildings received Rp<br>\n250,000 for each square meter of the building. Owners of<br>\ntemporary makeshift buildings received the lowest compensation of<br>\nRp 150,000 per square meter.<\/p>\n<p>The residents had earlier vowed to approach the House of<br>\nRepresentatives over the compensation.<\/p>\n<p>Ena did not say when the meeting between Golkar and PT Angkasa<br>\nPura would take place.<\/p>\n<p>Local authorities had earlier announced their plan to pull<br>\ndown the 639 illegal houses, located on state land in Dadap<br>\nvillage, Kosambi District. Many of the houses have been used as<br>\nillicit low-class prostitution dens.<\/p>\n<p>Sixty-five structures in the area, including worship places<br>\nand elementary schools, will not be affected, as they have<br>\npermits.<\/p>\n<p>The head of Tangerang regency's public order office, Ujang<br>\nRukana, said over the weekend that the owners of illegal<br>\nbuildings had ignored the regent's letters, which requested them<br>\nto carry out the demolitions by themselves.<\/p>\n<p>The regency issued its latest demolition order on May 4,<br>\nstating that the deadline for the residents was May 19.
