        "content": "<p>Spokesperson of the Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas)\nunder the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham), Rika Aprianti,\nexplained the protest that resulted in prison damage occurred on Monday\nat 3:00 PM WITA. Initially, Sungguminasa Prison was stormed by 40\ndemonstrators representing the Alliance of Law Observers (AMPH).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe demonstration was conducted by AMPH without prior permission or\nofficial notification from the police, either Gowa Regency Police\n(Polres Gowa) or Bontomarannu Police Station (Polsek Bontomarannu),\u201d\nsaid Rika in her statement on Monday (25 May 2026).<\/p>\n<p>Rika stated that the demonstrators engaged in destructive acts,\nincluding deliberately ramming motorcycles into the P2U entry area,\nthrowing stones at windows, damaging visitor facilities for inmates, and\nother prison infrastructure. The protesters also set fire to tyres.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey also carried sharp weapons such as badik daggers and bows. The\nactions caused fear and unease among the local community,\u201d she\nadded.<\/p>\n<p>In response, Rika said the prison chief immediately coordinated with\nand reported the incident to Bontomarannu Police Station and Koramil\n1409-03 military unit for security assistance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEight provocateurs involved in the incident were arrested and taken\nto the police station. Searches and examinations revealed two tested\npositive for narcotics,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>She confirmed that Sungguminasa Prison continues to coordinate with\nBontomarannu Police Station and remains open for discussions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll complaints and services will be addressed in accordance with\nstandard operating procedures,\u201d she added.<\/p>",
