        "content": "<p>Protection for farmers' right sought<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: The Indonesian Farmers Federation (FSPI) said on<br>\nWednesday that it would submit a proposal to the United Nations<br>\nHigh Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHCHR) to issue a promise on<br>\nthe protection of farmers' rights.<\/p>\n<p>FSPI secretary-general Henry Saragih said the proposal had<br>\nbeen endorsed by various farmers' associations in Thailand,<br>\nMalaysia, the Philippines and Brazil.<\/p>\n<p>\"We know it will not be easy to issue an international pledge<br>\nbut we must fight for it because so far it is only farmers who<br>\ndon't have international protection,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>The UNHCHR'S annual meeting started on March 17 and will end<br>\non April 25, but the FSPI will attend the meeting from March 29<br>\nto April 2.<\/p>\n<p>FSPI will also call on the UNHCHR to issue a resolution to<br>\nhelp stop violence against farmers, such as those in Bojonegoro,<br>\nEast Java, Wonosobo, Central Java, Sosa, North Sumatra and other<br>\nareas. -JP<\/p>",
