One wonders where, when and how the protection of
\nforeigners\/expats is controlled.<\/p>\n
A Shipping fraud incident, which has scarred the memories of
\nan ex-Consul of Egypt, Karim Sherif, needs to be compensated for
\nand looked into by authorities in the government. It is
\ndisheartening when one has dedicated one's time in a foreign
\ncountry and then has his furniture and effects returned to his
\nresidence from the loading port due to insufficient
\ncommunications from one port to another ... in effect, his goods
\nwere damaged due to rain; or rather ... to neglect.<\/p>\n
The cargo company in question should be reprimanded or not
\nallowed to function if they don't stick to initial agreements.<\/p>\n
The government should have officials overseeing the business
\nlegitimacy, honesty and professionalism in helping foreign
\nvisitors. Foreign liaison represents the nation for good
\ninternational relations. It is incidents like this that
\ncontinuously mars the face of one's country.<\/p>\n
All cargo companies should be investigated prior to sending
\nvaluable or sentimental items anywhere.<\/p>\n
What comes to mind is, are all these companies privately
\nowned, and registered by a government ministry to protect people?
\nAnd do they include an insurance cover?<\/p>\n
Personally, I think Sherif's request of US$1000 for damages,
\nin all fairness is reasonable when one considers the initial
\ncosts he outlaid, not to mention time and emotional stress which
\ncan outweigh the value of the goods. However, people seem to
\ndisregard this. The other concern is, once the goods are out of
\nthe customer's reach, he has no control over their handling.<\/p>\n
How can the foreigner or expat be protected?<\/p>\n
