'Prospek' journalists seek fair deal<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A group of 25 journalists and employees of the
\nfinancially troubled Prospek magazine had sought help from the
\nHouse of Representatives yesterday to get their 11 months'
\nsalaries and clarification of their employment status.<\/p>\n
They complained that they have been neglected by the
\nmanagement of PT Indowarta Pasar Media, which publishes the
\neconomic weekly magazine.<\/p>\n
They charged that the company's president director Adi
\nSutrisno had not paid their salaries since Prospek stopped
\npublishing in June last year for financial trouble.<\/p>\n
The management did not declare the newsmagazine bankrupt
\neither although it had financially collapsed, leaving their
\nemployment status unclear.<\/p>\n
\"We have not received our salaries for the past 11 months.\"
\nAzwar Samin, the group spokesman told members of House Commission
\nI overseeing information affairs.<\/p>\n
The group members were met by commission chairperson Aisyah
\nAminy, deputy commission chief B.N. Marbun and commission members
\nDalam Sinuraya and Zamharir.<\/p>\n
\"Since June, our fate has been uncertain. We are neither hired
\nnor fired,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Magazine journalist Taufiqurahman said the problem dated back
\nto 1994 when a conflict within the management erupted. Senior
\nmanagers and journalists had left one by one, he said.<\/p>\n
Since then the remaining 42 reporters and supporting staff
\nhave managed the magazine themselves. \"We worked as reporters as
\nwell as businessmen,\" he said.<\/p>\n
The 42 people brought the case to court in December. They are
\ndemanding Rp 660 million (US$290,000) for seven months worth of
\nsalaries, bonus and severance payments and Rp 1 billion for
\nimmaterial losses.<\/p>\n
Legislator Aisyah Aminy said the commission could not do much
\nto help them because the problem has been brought to court.(01)<\/p>",
