        "content": "<p>'Prospek' journalists seek fair deal<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): A group of 25 journalists and employees of the<br>\nfinancially troubled Prospek magazine had sought help from the<br>\nHouse of Representatives yesterday to get their 11 months'<br>\nsalaries and clarification of their employment status.<\/p>\n<p>They complained that they have been neglected by the<br>\nmanagement of PT Indowarta Pasar Media, which publishes the<br>\neconomic weekly magazine.<\/p>\n<p>They charged that the company's president director Adi<br>\nSutrisno had not paid their salaries since Prospek stopped<br>\npublishing in June last year for financial trouble.<\/p>\n<p>The management did not declare the newsmagazine bankrupt<br>\neither although it had financially collapsed, leaving their<br>\nemployment status unclear.<\/p>\n<p>\"We have not received our salaries for the past 11 months.\"<br>\nAzwar Samin, the group spokesman told members of House Commission<br>\nI overseeing information affairs.<\/p>\n<p>The group members were met by commission chairperson Aisyah<br>\nAminy, deputy commission chief B.N. Marbun and commission members<br>\nDalam Sinuraya and Zamharir.<\/p>\n<p>\"Since June, our fate has been uncertain. We are neither hired<br>\nnor fired,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>Magazine journalist Taufiqurahman said the problem dated back<br>\nto 1994 when a conflict within the management erupted. Senior<br>\nmanagers and journalists had left one by one, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Since then the remaining 42 reporters and supporting staff<br>\nhave managed the magazine themselves. \"We worked as reporters as<br>\nwell as businessmen,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>The 42 people brought the case to court in December. They are<br>\ndemanding Rp 660 million (US$290,000) for seven months worth of<br>\nsalaries, bonus and severance payments and Rp 1 billion for<br>\nimmaterial losses.<\/p>\n<p>Legislator Aisyah Aminy said the commission could not do much<br>\nto help them because the problem has been brought to court.(01)<\/p>",
