        "content": "<p>Prosecutors seek 10 years for Marriott bomber<\/p>\n<p>The Jakarta Post, Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>The prosecution is seeking a 10-year jail sentence for Muhammad<br>\nRais for his alleged involvement in the JW Marriott Hotel bombing<br>\non Aug. 12, 2003.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutor Andi Herman told the South Jakarta District Court<br>\non Tuesday that Rais was guilty of involvement in the bombing,<br>\nwhich terrorized the public.<\/p>\n<p>In his indictment, the prosecutor said the defendant was fully<br>\nresponsible for his actions, which resulted in the deaths of 12<br>\npeople, including the bomber, with 147 others injured.<\/p>\n<p>In mitigation, the prosecutor said the defendant admitted his<br>\nguilt and had expressed remorse.<\/p>\n<p>Presiding judge Johanes Ether Binti adjourned the trial until<br>\nnext week to hear defense arguments.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, the same court delayed the opening hearing in the<br>\ntrial of another defendant in the Marriott bombing.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutor Tubagus Arief Aziz told the court that the<br>\ndefendant, Joni Hendrawan, alias Idris, alias Gembrot, was unable<br>\nto appear in court because he was being treated for back pain at<br>\nPertamina Hospital. Idris is being detained at the Jakarta Police<br>\nHeadquarters.<\/p>\n<p>Presiding judge Asnawati adjourned the trial until next week.<\/p>\n<p>Tubagus told reporters that the defendant was also being<br>\ncharged with helping to assemble the bombs used in the Bali<br>\nterrorist attack in October 2000.<\/p>\n<p>In the Marriott case, Idris is alleged to have transported<br>\nthe explosives used in the bombing from Pekanbaru, Riau, to<br>\nBengkulu and then to Jakarta in August 2003.<\/p>\n<p>Tubagus said Idris was being charged under Law No. 15\/2003 on<br>\nterrorism, which carries a maximum sentence of death.<\/p>\n<p>He said prosecutors had secured statements from 100 witnesses,<br>\nincluding Imam Samudra, Amrozi and Mukhlas, who have been<br>\nsentenced to death for their roles in the Bali bombings.<\/p>",
