Prosecutors demand five years for bomb suspect<\/p>\n

Prosecutors demanded on Thursday five years' imprisonment for a
\nterrorist suspect allegedly involved in last year's bombing of
\nthe Australian Embassy in Jakarta, during the first session of
\nhis trial at the South Jakarta District Court.<\/p>\n
The defendant, Agus Ahmad, was charged with abetting the
\nperpetrator with the blast -- in which 11 people died including
\nthe bomber -- by transporting and hiding explosive materials.<\/p>\n
He is also suspected of helping Azahari bin Husin, a Malaysian
\nfugitive believed to be the mastermind behind the blast and the
\n2002 Bali bombings as well as the 2003 attack on the J.W.
\nMarriott Hotel.<\/p>\n
Chief prosecutor Jaya Sakti said he was convinced Agus had
\nbeen heavily involved in the terrorist act and was deserving of a
\nfive-year sentence.<\/p>\n
Jaya argued Agus was fully aware the package delivered to him
\nby Iwan Darmawan alias Rois, another suspect in the case,
\ncontained explosives.<\/p>\n
However, Agus has denied any prior knowledge of the contents
\nof the parcel.<\/p>\n
\"The materials were stored in his home and then within a week
\nhe moved them to his in-laws' house. Afterward, they were again
\nmoved to the place where Azahari assembled them into a bomb,\"
\nJaya said as quoted by Reuters.<\/p>\n
Agus had originally been indicted for helping hide Azahari but
\nthe prosecutors dropped the charge because they said that Azahari
\nused an alias and Agus did not know he was wanted for the Bali
\nand Marriott attacks.<\/p>\n
The trial was adjourned until next Thursday.<\/p>\n
Last week, prosecutors demanded five years' imprisonment for
\nanother suspect Irun Hidayat for similar charges.<\/p>\n
Separately, National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Soenarko D.A.
\nannounced on Thursday that two terrorist suspects held last week
\nhad been officially detained at the National Police Headquarters.<\/p>\n
Joni Achmad Fauzani and Solahudin Sutawijaya, who were
\ncaptured on July 7 and July 8 in Mojokerto, East Java, and
\nJakarta respectively, were accused of assisting terrorist attacks
\nby hiding Azahari bin Husin and his fugitive accomplice Noordin
\nMoh. Top.<\/p>\n
\"Based on an arrest warrant issued today (Thursday), we have
\ndeclared both Fauzani and Solahudin suspects and they have
\nalready been officially detained,\" Soenarko said.<\/p>\n
Previously, Fauzani and Solahudin were detained at the
\nNational Police Headquarters for seven days as regulated in the
\nantiterror law, which allows police investigators to detain
\nterror suspects without pressing charges.<\/p>\n
With Fauzani and Solahudin, the National Police have arrested
\n15 terrorist suspects linked to the blast outside the Australian
\nEmbassy in Kuningan, Jakarta.<\/p>",
